I took a break from Netroots Nation 2009 to sneak and sit in for a panel at the conservative version: RightOnline 2009. It was filled with ignorance, fear and anger. Several audience members gave heartfelt speeches in favor of DDT and how could they not address the general liberal assault on THE CHILDREN.
RightOnline was sad and pathetic compared to Netroots Nation. The venue was so tiny and their exhibit hall, or what was supposed to be their exhibit hall, was simply 10 tables crowding a normal hallway.
Honestly, why can’t the right think for itself and not copy everything the left does online? Be original and have a conference on your own date and in your own city.
We don’t need 60 votes to pass Healthcare reform. Harry Reid’s 60 vote goalpost is looking more and more like an excuse for inaction. Keep in mind that the Republican controlled Senate of the Bush years felt like kings of the world getting 51 votes and tearing apart the constitution.
The failure to reform healthcare should be placed squarely on Harry Reid if there isn’t a vote soon.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — An independent investigator has found evidence that Gov. Sarah Palin may have violated ethics laws by accepting private donations to pay her legal debts.
My take: the doomsday scenario that was presented to us in September and October of last year was worse than the reality. Bernanke and Paulson are now talking about their rationale leading up to the Great Panic. They were playing a political game too. A calculation of how much they had to scare the shit out of the country to quickly get the large sum of money they felt they needed to avoid a meltdown.
If Goldman and other banks can report record profits 8 months out from the end of the world then something doesn’t add up. We need to figure out who lied and when. The politics are even more important. If this isn’t rectified by the 2010 mid term elections there will be a large price to pay.
“The grim reality is that with regard to the budget we have entered a zero-sum game. Every defense dollar diverted to fund excess or unneeded capacity… is a dollar that will be unavailable to take care of our people, to win the wars we are in, to deter potential adversaries, and to improve capabilities in areas where America is underinvested and potentially vulnerable. That is a risk that I will not take and one that I cannot accept,” he said.
Lets face it: our Defense budget hasn’t made sense for the past 20 years. We won’t be engaging in any dogfights at mach II with terrorists. The priority should be protecting and better equipping our people on the ground.
I personally think our overall Defense budget needs to get more in line with the rest of the world. It shouldn’t be as massive as it is and our priority as a nation should not be war.
